If you use OKRs, and your O isn't to make your user/customer's lives better in some small way, and your KR isn't tied to feedback coming from those user/customers, you are probably not accomplishing what you think.

The sad reality of so many agile/digital transformations out there. For the sake of appearing agile (in name only), teams get asked to come up with their (project’s!) OKRs in the absence of any strategy or guidance whatsoever. Who wants to guess the final result..

Since time immemorial, when a CEO asks a PM at Product Review, “what do you need to 10X users/revenue?”, “what will make you go faster?”, etc the PM steadfastly responds “We need [N] more engineers”. The Eng Mgr nods approvingly. A story thread, with some hard truths to swallow:

I've measured "engineering velocity" for a very long time, but I'm starting to focus more on "engineering drag". These are the things that slow down engineering teams. This includes product discovery, local dev environments, CI/CD pipelines, etc. Reduce drag to go faster.

Trunk based development is brilliant not only because it’s just simpler to work with but it forces you to work in smaller batch sizes. Which forces you into having to adopt more rigorous engineering practices and work more methodically.
