Today was a good day. Friends, neighbors, and family joined us for the first of two harvests this year. It could not have gone better. Here’s my uncle getting a good curl with the hot knife.
Pine. Birch smoke. Beeswax. It’s amazing how memory is tied to scent. I feel like I’m back in my grandfather’s honey house with him. Haven’t been up there since my early teens.

Today is a a big day. We are harvesting about half the honey. Family and a few close friends are coming by to help and learn. It will take hours. I feel the same way I did when I was younger and my family would all go to a sugar shack to boil sap with friends into maple syrup.…

Good evening. A little pre-work for me in the bee yard this evening in preparation for tomorrow’s harvest, the first of two this year.
I think the biggest downside of New England is the lack of national parks like they’ve got out west. If I was a young man who earnestly thought buying land was out of the question for me, I think I’d focus my energy and time to conserving national parks.
