Kids don’t know how to play defense. Coaches don’t know how to teach defense. We spend over an hour each training session on ONLY defense. If you don’t know how to play defense, you aren’t playing for me!

In AAU here it’s 16 mins a half. That’s 32 total mins. X 5 spots on the floor=160mins total to spread to 9 guys. That’s about 17 mins+ or ~ a couple. Common sense tells me a great AAU game is 6pts, 6 rebs, and 6 assists. Unfortunately most kids/parents think differently.

I’ve taken so much in from UCONN-Purdue. Conn-old school coaching & teaching works. Great players can share and sacrifice & still be stars and get to the NBA. Purdue-old school coaches can really coach & develop. Kids can develop & become stars regardless of rankings or AAU team
Defense is incredibly important. You need to be able to get stops. But the saying, “Offense wins games and defense wins championships” likely has become irrelevant. The best offensive teams are beating the best defensive teams. You have to be able to score the ball.

Everyone wonders why he doesn’t pick up fouls, it’s simple, his defense isn’t that great. He takes plays off on defense to rest because he feels no one will attack him.
