30 years ago today, as a federal employee in an office overseeing 1000s of env. cleanup sites, I wrote an official memo that reported our agency's using an illegal shortcut to avoid the public's right-to-be-involved. As a result, my career was done. Still true today. @opengovpart

The Mayflower Compact was drafted and signed only 2 days after the Pilgrims sighted land. It's amazing they were able to discuss and agree on a major document so quickly .. except when you remember that they were not distracted by smartphones: email, text-messages, social media.

Exactly 10 years ago, on President Obama's first day in office, he instructed all federal agencies to be more "Transparent, Participatory, and Collaborative" with citizens. After 8 year of #OpenGov efforts, did it have any measurable effect .. at all? obamawhitehouse.archives.gov/open/about

I've been saying that #OpenGov would come to this. If Government and Citizens need to work better together, then why should Govt be the only side held accountable for slacking? #CitizenSlackers should be recognized & rated too! We need both: #YelpforGov AND #YelpforCitizenship
