Let’s be real real: Sometimes ‘rigor, relevance, and relationships’ aren’t enough to do the teaching. In the coming year(s), there will be more students who need so much more and our educators and systems just aren’t adequately prepared to give those students what they need.

I haven't done my research, but I am pretty sure the only reason kids are in school 5 days a week is because parents work 5 days a week. So does that make school a childcare facility or a place for learning? Just asking.

Adding and subtracting fractions takes a lot of mental bandwidth. I don't know when you should teach it, but I know that at 10 years old I still believed that the MJ Thriller video was real. I wasn't ready to find the common denominator.

Most schools get no funding for celebrations. Admins typically spend months before Teacher Appreciation Week asking for donations and planning fundraisers and still often have to spend out of their own pockets to give every teacher something. Be grateful.
