THESE AWS OUTAGES ARE THE REASON WE DONT USE THEM HOSTING ON THE COMPUTER UNDER MY DESK ALSO MEANS I CAN HEAR WHEN THE WEBSITE IS GETTING HITS
@PHP_CEO Reminds me of when my university changed its grades/lms system from something reliable: something an engineering prof wrote themself, running on a cpu under their desk, to something completely unreliable: a cluster running Blackboard.
@PHP_CEO The box under my desk has seven 9s of uptime. Only an overly enthusiastic vacuuming took down it's power cord.
@PHP_CEO you are joking but my home server got 99.93% while lightsail in Virginia got 99.82% (whole year considered)
@PHP_CEO 😂😂 imagine explaining to your guests that the sound coming one of the bedrooms is either the sound of success or a DoS attack
@PHP_CEO > hard drive spinning AAAAAW YEEEEEEA DOING NUMBERS :P (I had to)
@PHP_CEO Best thing ever (20+ years ago) was a PhD project that redirected the apache log file into sounds. lots of tweety and nice animal pre-ASRM things... elephant roaring was bad.. really bad :D
@PHP_CEO You probably save money on heating as well during those peaks. Genius.
@PHP_CEO You just skip self hosted and go straight to desktop pc?
@PHP_CEO How old am I? Routine production operations "monitoring" included listening to the machine, while sitting next to it. Did it "sound right"?

@PHP_CEO “As you know, here at PHP, we take collaboration seriously. It’s a core value! That’s why starting March 1st, we’ll all be coming in to listen to the server together! “
@PHP_CEO I’m pretty sure my $40 Raspberry PI web server has been up longer than the past few AWS outages.
@PHP_CEO I had my server in my living room. I would hear the server hum loudly all the time.
@PHP_CEO Tbh, should be archtecting across multiple AZ’s
@PHP_CEO Something tells me there are baseball cards in the fan to make a cool noise!
@PHP_CEO Ok I can host a website on my a spare computer in my living room?
@PHP_CEO Need more of this, way more. I miss my WDs of Loud.
@PHP_CEO Does remind you of the value of internal servers. At least you can fix it on your own. With cloud all you can do is submit a ticket and pray.
