I still remember meeting Dr Salk in his @salkinstitute office in La Jolla CA in 1995, the last yr of his life. He gave me advice on our hookworm anemia vaccine + shared his ideas for HIV/AIDS vaccine development. We then discussed his wife’s paintings in his office. Amazing

@PeterHotez @salkinstitute Wow did not know that! Amazing story and great scientist!
Very cool! One of my earliest memories is receiving my first polio vaccination injection that year. It took a few people to hold me still. I got better with injections :-) and polio was in the process of being eliminated as a major health risk. Very grateful ever since to Dr Salk. And others, like you, who work hard on infectious disease and vaccinations.
@PeterHotez @salkinstitute Peter if you were born 69 years earlier you'd be adored like #TaylorSwift. A "miracle worker" to all Americans. What a difference 69 yrs can make.
@PeterHotez @salkinstitute Remarkable that you were able to meet such a legend of science! Here's to Dr. Salk and his world-changing work🍻
@PeterHotez @salkinstitute I remember standing in line at school to get the vaccine when I was six years old. I was scared but my mother told me that getting polio would be scarier. We had a neighbor who spent time in an iron lung. The vaccine prevented that. It was wonderful.
@PeterHotez @salkinstitute Just so happy we all able to unite and beat this thing.
@PeterHotez @salkinstitute I remember waiting on line at school in the early 6Os to get my doses.
@PeterHotez @salkinstitute larger than life figure
