The guy who works at the dump came to my house today, he’s running for county council on the platform of “make the grader operator be better at his job”. Needless to say I’ll probably vote for him.

This very neatly illustrates the difference in vibe between the old rural southerners I knew and their much more affluent boomer/gen-x children. The affluent younger crowd still identifies with the “rural” aesthetic but lives in an expensive suburb, so it’s just kitsch!
