Classic Star Wars: A New Hope #2 (1994). Dark Horse reprints the last two issues of the original Thomas-Chaykin adaptation with a new cover by Adam Hughes. While I could track down some of the original issues for Empire and Jedi, this was the first time I could read these

I miss the days where everywhere I looked a comic was sporting a Tim Bradstreet cover even though it meant I couldn’t say no to buying them! Reread the Gangland miniseries and was happy to find a forgotten story of Brian Azzarello’s he illustrated. Also, Corben, Gibbons & more!

Two double splashes from Boys’ Ranch by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, both of which fill the reader in on Four Massacres, the town near the ranch. I’ve never read BR before now but it’s pages like this that make me put it ahead of most of their other kid gang books. #JackKirby

Here’s the first five pages (two form a double spread) of Arik Khan #1 by Franc Reyes. His art has a Rudy Nebres style to it, and it’s a great action sequence. Reyes started the indie series with the goal of reaching 24 issues, but he only made 3 before going into the film biz

“Sooner or later the Silver Surfer will crumble before me” The Surfer living in Mephisto’s head rent-free in the Judgement Day graphic novel by John Buscema. Glad to see Big John illustrating another showdown between the two in this story - nobody draws Mephisto better!

Silver Snail is a comic store in Toronto that published some cool comics in the 70s like the fantastic Andromeda sci-fi anthology and Arik Khan, written and drawn by Filipino-born Franc Reyes who lived in Toronto at the time. It’s a sword & sorcery story with a Savage Sword feel
