ICU nurses are all about business + don’t get close to the patients + families bc there’s just too much death + dying. My mom took a turn for the worse today and the amount of nurses that have come to hug + console me, w tears in their own eyes, is surprising.

The night before, some young dude came into the lounge, tried to be quiet while preparing to go to sleep, only to cut on an audiobook or podcast. He went to sleep and I woke up every time something broke the cadence of the story, like an ad.

Me to nurse: can you please ask the nurses and techs not to let this door slam when closing? Nurse: moves cabinet several rooms down instead. So it was easier to move it and wake up the other patients, than to just ask everyone to stop slamming the darn thing shut?

3:47a. Here we sit struggling to sleep as our loved one’s bodies (their daughter. My mom) fight to stay alive. For three nights we’ve met here at the end of an emotionally charged day. Our own bodies exhausted. Hoping today will be the day something good will happen.
