This of course is no longer a unique trait in today's political world. India has a very a competitive educational model that produces highly educated graduates who have been programmed to this dog eat dog philosophy... we have 400,000 of them working in the US on H1B visas. India uses their role in NATO for it's own self defense and territorial gain as they have shown no interest the larger issues of that organization. Turkey is a close second. India is currently making billions buying and reselling cheap Russian oil on the international market. India relies on China for cheap finished goods, electronics and pharmaceutics even though they have significant border disputes. Why would they sacrifice these economic advantages when ordered to do so by Donald Trump? The Donald has not made the US very popular internationally with these tactics recently and he has played almost all of his face cards. When the Russian and Chinese relationships no longer serve India's interest they will need to repair their US relationship. India will almost certainly return without apology and we will welcome them back as the unrepentant prodigal son with open arms.
