Public broadband advocate and community organizer Jennifer Redman met with staff in @RepDexterOR's office to discuss @pdxfiber's work to create a public broadband infrastructure option for all Portlanders.
Nothing like an AAPB Hill Day! 🏛️
#CommunityFirst25
When 83% of your constituents and your local newspaper oppose your proposed bill to make the local utility sell its broadband network, perhaps it's time to move on to something else, @GexForSenatestate-journal.com/opinion/editor…
The inevitable march towards community-owned broadband grew enormously in 2023, documented by @communitynets, Sean Gonsalves & @ilsr. Of course, the attacks on local choice grew too. 2024 will be a fun year for friends of public broadband! communitynets.org/content/new-mu…#ownyourfuture
Big monopoly ISPs have been telling “misinformation” about community owned broadband for years. Community ownership bring competition, higher quality at a lower price. Probably why they don’t like it. @AAPBroadband bbcmag.com/breaking-news/…
In my 1st article for the American Association for Public Broadband, I talk about Bountiful City UT, where the City Council voted unanimously to contract with UTOPIA Fiber to build a city-wide fiber broadband network. At the last minute, a dark money group is trying to kill it.
telecompetitor.com/washington-bil… ... Newsflash! Monopolists whine about not having monopolies! Requiring open-access for public grants is good policy that serves the interests of subscribers.
@CenturyLink@CenturyLinkHelp ya’ll are shady as fuck. Advertising “Price for Life” getting a large number of subscribers and then raising the price saying people are on a “Prepaid” plan and not Price for Life. @FTC and @FCC should be investigating this.
@CenturyLink I signed up for price for life in 2019 for $65 dollars. I get an email today that my bill is going up $10 in May. They tell me I never had a price for life plan and that it never existed then. Then they think that by removing the $10 in May that will help. Morals?
This, of course, is why carriers fight to the death against Title II. Title II isn't just about net neutrality. It's about FCC ailuthority to -- among other things -- protect consumers and promote competition for a service essential to our modern lives. /6
