It is so exhausting that, every time I find myself in an intellectual or professional situation with strangers, I have to go to great lengths to prove myself in order to not be talked down to.

I wish captions would include the actual words people say when they speak other languages, instead of just saying [speaks in] + whatever language it is. It feels so patronizing, as if they can't imagine that we could understand another language.

No. As if we aren’t all going to be afraid anyway. Let people who want to have access, have access. For every frightened patient the dr sees, there are a dozen who feel more confident and prepared before their apt.
