@SarahStrix As a proper romance reading enthusiast I typically avoid books with any cheating between the MC's. It's really hard to stomach an act that deeply unsettles me as much as the cheated. It's a such a big violation of trust and I lose all faith for the cheating party 🤷🏽♀️
@SarahStrix Yeah, I guess it depends on the message you're going for! Personally, I find it to be a deal breaker, but if your MC goes through a huge redemption arc and personality change, it could still work.
@SarahStrix Honestly, as soon as a character cheats, it's over for me. I would never have sympathy for that character again - never want them to get together with the person they cheated on. It's such a huge fracture of trust.
@SarahStrix Sure, in the universe where they redeem themselves. Of course some readers will never forgive them, but that's the nature of having morally grey chars. Most readers, however, can be won back over if the char works hard for it.
@SarahStrix Uhhhh I'd say if it was a committed relationship, that'd be tough and the MC would have to go through a lot with no guarantee the LI would take them back. Then maybe? Idk, cheating is very no bueno haha

@SarahStrix I guess it depends on the circumstances, who was it with? Why did they do it? If it was because they weren’t feeling satisfied that should lead to a larger discussion, if it was out of spite then dump their butt.
@SarahStrix I feel like there are many ways for them to be redeemed, but if you try to play the MC as crying or making themselves appear pathetic to win back their LI, I think that could read as more manipulative than redeeming.
@SarahStrix What is most likely to make me forgive them is if the relationship is broken off, and the cheater then seriously cleans up their shit over a period of time and they get back together when the person who was cheated upon sees how much of a better person the cheater has become.
@SarahStrix That someone doesn't like. You're the one yelling the story. Tell it how you're seeing it play out. Write what you're seeing/feeling. Let the readers do the rest.
@SarahStrix Here's my first question: how does it help the story line move forward? -Is it a necessity for this character to do this to learn the lesson you wish for them to learn? -Will the story move along just fine without it? There's always going to be something in every story
