DANIELLE SMITH AMPLIFIES HARMFUL, DISCRIMINATORY RHETORICĀ Ā CALGARY ā Earlier today, Alberta NDP Leader Rachel Notley denounced Premier Danielle Smith and urged her to disavow the harmful rhetoric spread by highly discriminatory, far-right conspiracy theorist Tucker Carlson.Ā Ā Yesterday, Smith joined Carlson for multiple events, including a panel with Brett Wilson and Jordan Peterson, where the discussion included vaccine misinformation and discriminatory comments about several equity-seeking groups.Ā Ā āThe Premier's actions, unfortunately, have sent a disheartening message about our province to the rest of the world,ā said Notley. āAt a time when many people - including investors, job creators, and many professionals so desperately needed in our workforce -Ā are considering Alberta as their new home, Danielle Smith sat across from a man moments after he promoted white supremacy and disparaged immigrants.āĀ Ā āKnowing what Tucker Carlson stands for, thousands of Albertans signed a petition asking Danielle Smith to decline this man any opportunity to spread his misogynistic, xenophobic, and homophobic attacks in the place they call home, but she sat down with him anyway.ā Ā Shortly after the Tucker Carlson appearance was announced, thousands of Albertans signed a petition, asking Danielle Smith not to allow Carlson to have such a platform in Alberta. Ā āOur provinceās strength comes from the diversity of our neighbours, and we are better as a province because of our ability to embrace and welcome anyone who chooses to call Alberta home,ā said Notley. Ā āThis is the Alberta that we expect the Premier to showcase when the world is watching.Ā Ā āI call on Danielle Smith to reflect deeply on her choice to use the Office of the Premier to elevate someone like Tucker Carlson, and I urge her to specifically disavow his harmful and dangerous views.Ā Ā āMost importantly, she must apologize to the Albertans who feel less secure and less welcome today because of her actions. Ā āThe Alberta NDP strongly condemns everything Tucker Carlson stands for, and we stand strong against such division and hate. We will never stop fighting for what's just and continue working tirelessly towards a future where every Albertan lives the genuine experience of their inherent value.ā

@RachelNotley What are those values that need so much "defending" and that common sense seems to have disturbed?
