£49bn for a new runway and some more terminal capacity. Compare that to £80bn-odd for an entire new 140 mile high speed railway with 50 major bridges and viaducts, four new stations and 32 miles of double-bore tunnel. I know which sounds good value to me… bbc.com/news/articles/…

Because of train shenanigans on the way home (broken rail, fallen tree), I came home via the little branch line between Princes Risborough and Aylesbury. It crosses #HS2 so got this snap of the line southwards - in this particular place looking fairly complete.

Steady but not dramatic progress on the #HS2 Wendover green tunnel since I was last here six weeks ago. Maybe 60 metres more tunnel done. Excavation of the trench to the south complete. A huge hill of earth built up for the infilling. But this will be quite a long job, I’d say.

These new Arterios ARE nice. Seating nicely spaced and not too hard. Plenty of room for pushchairs and bikes. Sensible toilet controls. So worth the wait, though Lord knows why the wait had to be so long.

Gosh, Arterio trains DO exist! This one is on the stopping service to Guildford via Epsom. Absolute night and day compared to the old trains, which have no air-con or toilets.
