Unpopular Opinion: In 12-step recovery they use the phrase "God of your understanding." Been in 12-step recovery for almost a decade, I do not subscribe to this idea. Higher Power, I can get. But I do not believe in any God. So, there is no God of my Understanding, and that's ok.
I dont mean to sound judgemental, but I'm saddened by what I have found. I started this account and added everyone in recovery I found. Somehow, I have seen "OnlyFans" promotions tweets on my feed. In recovery we learn to love and respect ourselves. We exploited ourselves enough.
Today has been rough... Working in a prison has to be one of the hardest jobs on the planet for a recovering addict. There is literally no hope, empathy, or compassion. I'm emotionally drained 🥱
Went to the casino last night while everyone was celebrating St. Patrick's Day. 🍀 Alcoholism running wild. Watched a guy nonchalantly throw up outside and then continue to chug his beer after... I would hide to throw up, then go back for more. It was sad, I was him. #Recovery

Tell me a weird hobby you have gotten into since being clean. Mine: I began investing in crypto and buying JPG pictures known as NFTs for ridiculous amounts of money 🤣 Sometimes recovery gets a little weird 😕
When I leave for the prison every morning I stop at a small carryout. About 50% of the time I run into an older man there buying one cheap beer at 5:45am. As I feel empathy for the man's struggle, it also reminds me what alcohol and drugs did to me.
My sponsee called last night nervous about sharing his story for the first time. He asked me what he should say? I told him what the Basic Text says. My reply: "Our message is hope, our promise is freedom." Share about that and you will be fine!
