Spent some time reverse engineering a Sony app to figure out how the A7II sends photos over Wi-Fi. Why? Because I shouldn't have to use an app that forces sign up and tracking just to access my own photos.

User interfaces are best implemented in code: visiting the levels of a view hierarchy and running functions to size and place elements. Can be fiddly, but ultimately not that hard. All the effort put into visual-based, rule-defined, and declarative systems hasn’t been worth it.

Big companies get big by hiring lots of people who aren’t very good at their jobs but can play the political game well enough to keep their direct manager happy and they in turn aren’t very good at their jobs so the system perpetuates itself in wave after wave of mediocrity.
