Sorry for repost, X is being grumpy. Anyway, my $11 monitor arrived like this. Any ideas as to what is wrong? If you have experience with this, please comment. Otherwise, please spectate š
@RetroTechChris Needs degaussingā¦likely stored near a magnet like a poorly shielded speaker.
@RetroTechChris Does it change with percussive maintenance?
@RetroTechChris Ugh! My money is on shadow mask getting knocked offā¦. But it could be something as simple as maybe like a convergence magnet got moved too far back.
@RetroTechChris Factory fitted tuning magnets that were calibrated during manufacturing, have come lose/moved during the rough shipping environment, that could also be the litem you can hear moving around in the casing
@RetroTechChris This is how my CRT looked like after being stored next to a guitar combo for weeks. It did not have the degauss feature but after weeks it got to normal anyway.
@RetroTechChris Oof. Degauss that puppy, hopefully that will fix it.
@RetroTechChris Is this a color crt monitor? If so you need to degauss it.
@RetroTechChris I read somewhere you can degauss a CRT monitor more easily when facing east and using Earthās magnetic field, but Iām not engineer
@RetroTechChris Your picture tube is strongly magnetized. Did you run the degaussing function? Does the screen make the loud thump or click sound from the degaussing coil? You should check if any of the correction magnets have come loose, or if the yoke has slipped down.
@RetroTechChris Use the on-screen menu. If simply power cycling doesn't work, press the "Menu" button on your monitor's front panel. Navigate through the on-screen display (OSD) menu to find the degauss option, which is often represented by a magnet or ohm symbol.
@RetroTechChris Shadow mask might be damaged, maybe. Dead if so. Maybe the folks in the crt Reddit community or facebook group will know
@RetroTechChris prognosis, not good. although it's possible the yoke slid back. i would probably file a claim and be done with it.
@RetroTechChris Regauss. Yes. REgauss. Someone DEGaussed it to often and it needs to be regaussed.
@RetroTechChris Looks like the electronics are working. Could be physical damage. There are three electron guns at the back of the tube they may have lost some kind of retention. I wouldn't open it unless you are confident you can discharge the tube .
@RetroTechChris Sadly I think the logo came true. It arrived Beat To Crap :'(.
@RetroTechChris Build/buy a degaussing coil. If you're into CRTs, it's definitely something to keep around.
@RetroTechChris I would check both the yoke and the CRT neckboard. Both could have gotten loose during transport. I donāt think the shadow mask became dislodged, that normally doesnāt happen that easily.
@RetroTechChris Missing adjustment ring on the back of the tube ? I know if one is missing and it's been tuned it wouldn't be near that bad. So I'm not sure. Have you did the old hit it trick ? Tap the top, sides, front, etc. See if there's any major differences.
