The covenant of grace in Reformed theology is not an utterly ahistorical abstraction away from God's covenant dealings in history with Abraham, Moses, David, etc. It is an interpretation of these historically discrete actions as part of a unified whole, the economy of redemption.

The difference between the covenant of works & the covenant of grace is not that obedience is required in one but not the other. The difference is that in the covenant of works, perfect & personal obedience is required, and in the covenant of grace, perfect & vicarious obedience…

How can you have a canon or an orthodox doctrine of the Trinity and Christ and hold an independent/congregationalist ecclesiology? Biblically and historically I cannot make sense of this.

I am shocked that people find this controversial. I don’t think you can honestly and carefully read Hebrews and not recognize this tension. Oh, and Paul, John and Peter speaks like this too.
