#CLT neighbors - please reply with a few of the most dangerous roads, streets and intersections in town - the Planning Commission will have an opportunity to meet with Dept Transportation soon. Thanks #visionzero
....and especially places where you would like to walk or bike
@Rickwins Recommend checking out @RecklessRoxboro as a route for the worst as an effective way to communicate how dangerous and put responsible parties on public notice.
@Rickwins I will say crossing the road as a pedestrian on morehead near Berkeley road is really difficult and dangerous, wish there were some lights there to slow people down
@Rickwins Park Road. Despite a posted speed limit of 35MPH, it's like a racetrack. Tailgating is frequent, and I'm often amazed at the impatience of drivers with no regard for laws or safety.
@Rickwins One general observation -- CLT has a LOT of places where many left turns are made, but there's no protected-turn signal. So a lot of close calls, not to mention actual collisions that could be avoided with better controls.
@Rickwins There was a streets map done for all of Charlotte to re envision the ideal for every street. Shouldn’t that be used as the starting point? It had some great feedback from the community over the course of multiple engagement sessions and online surveys.
@Rickwins - all of Park Rd - all of Woodlawn - Camden Rd at Tremont - Kenilworth/BklynVlg Aves at 277 on-ramps - Charlottetown at 3rd and 4th - S Tryon south of Woodlawn
@Rickwins -Sugar Creek/Plaza -Plaza/Mattheson -N Davidson/E 11th. Lot of traffic for turning left onto 11th -Eastway/Shamrock -The side road on the right side of Publix on South Blvd. Too many people try to make that left turn -CFA on South Blvd -Magnolia Ave. People fly down it
@Rickwins Parkwood/The Plaza east to 36th street. Sidewalks are narrow and cars feel like they are on top of you.
@Rickwins - Plaza between Eastway and Milton is a race track - Sharon Amity between Vernedale and Wilora Lake
@Rickwins -Plaza is always an ordeal -36th/Davidson area, needs something what with all the pedestrians. Sidewalks frequently feel very narrow. -Area around Park Rd Shopping Center. Lot of traffic. No left signal on Park southbound into the complex, LoS freq blocked by oncoming vehicles
@Rickwins N Brevard/Parkwood and N Davidson need traffic calming and more crosswalks in Optimist Park / Villa Heights
@Rickwins Street parking on Tryon in South End - please recommend it is made permanent and the road shrinks to 2 lanes. The random parking in some places causes chaotic conditions for all road users, but on a bike it is extremely uncomfortable
@Rickwins All of South Blvd. and Old Pineville Rd. south of Scaleybark. All of those intersections are disaster zones.
@Rickwins Tremont and Hawkins is extremely unsafe as a pedestrian due to aggressive drivers. I don’t know what the answer is here - preferably less vehicular thru traffic but idk if that’s feasible
@Rickwins Park / Poindexter / Cambridge One serious accident every week.
@Rickwins 36th between N Davidson and The Plaza is treated like a racetrack. So many pedestrians and no traffic calming.
@Rickwins Are you meeting with NC and/or Charlotte? My general rec is to redesign all “stroads”, reduce all school zone speeds to no more than 25 and general speeds around schools, churches, entertainment districts to 35, restrict right on red, & eliminate any remaining slip lanes.
@Rickwins Does this include the need for sidewalks? The intersection of N Tryon & Mallard Creek desperately needs them. I frequently see too many college students dangerously crossing the street.
@Rickwins 7th street going from Pecan to Briar Creek towards Mathews. Narrow side walks with overgrown foliage. Could also use a crosswalk.
@Rickwins Morehead and Kenilworth. 277/ Charlottetowne/ Kenilworth/ Brooklyn Village
@Rickwins - The Obvious 277 on ramp/3A/12th street fiasco - Chick Fil A on Woodlawn - No left turn lanes on South Blvd - Ramp from 85 South to 77 South should be a 2 lane merge instead of 2 turning into 1 at the end
@Rickwins -Sugar Creek/Plaza -Plaza/Matheson -Plaza/Parkwood has a wreck daily - Trying to cross Matheson between NoDa & villa heights
@Rickwins Parkwood from 277 to Davidson is awful. They’ve taken lanes away but no traffic calming.
@Rickwins Pecan & Chesterfield. I know you’re well aware already, but drivers run into Villani’s and power line poles multiple times a year and cars rarely stay entirely in their lane when rounding the curve. Thank you for the help and for reaching out!
@Rickwins Cedar St. People drive 40+ in a 25 MPH zone with plenty of dogs, kids, people walking on its sidewalks and [attempting] to bike. Would love to see some crosswalks, speed bumps, stop signs, a bike lane, and/or intersections added. Growing area too near the future Gateway Station.
@Rickwins 277 outer to north Davidson after the 74-277 interchange
@Rickwins Tryon and South Blvd on the south side of town. Multiple sections with 4 lane designs with no turn lanes that cause chaotic driving conditions
@Rickwins Central and Eastway. Not sure if they're NCDOT roads
@Rickwins Providence + Wendover as an intersection (red lights are veeeery optional every 2 minutes). Providence from Sharon Amity to Uptown more generally…cars regularly doing 60+ thru a 35mph zone that includes residential, churches, & schools.
@Rickwins If 3A has no haters, I’m dead. Can you also get them to turn the lights/crosswalks on at 16th and Parkwood and N Davidson and Parkwood? Thankssssd
