My opinion - The following people should offer to and/or be able to demo classroom teaching in any school they work in: OFSTED inspectors Consultants Trainers ‘Thought leaders’
@RogersHistory I know why people think this, but it really is a bit daft. I've never met an inspector or a consultant who hasn't had plenty of 'classroom experience.' Doesn't mean they were any good. What matters far more is experience of genuinely good, or even world class schooling.
@RogersHistory I understand where you are coming from - and certainly agree that we'd expect all in your list to be strong practitioners. Where I would counsel caution is us thinking about this as 'one off' (showpony as an ex-colleague called them) lessons.
@RogersHistory @edudissenter Big issue with demo lessons is that it removes major parts of the equation. Relationships built, class routine and culture established, knowledge of foundational skills covered and student levels and more.
@RogersHistory I wouldn't mind teaching in a school that had invited me to consult, but i think it would be a bit weird. I'd rather they came to observe me in my place tbh
@RogersHistory I do! Every single day I’m in school. And not just classroom teaching. I model how to monitor corridors/breaks/lunch/yard/start & end of the day with specific focus on developing relationships, being vigilant, modelling courtesy.
@RogersHistory Whilst it’s not strictly part of the job to « do » recent school practice is a useful reminder, beneficial to understanding and helps in the role in my opinion and experience. Agree with the comment on wider roles too. Speaking as an advisor not Ofsted or a thought leader.
