Today I conducted my last service as Director of Music here in #Devizes, after what can only be described as the happiest and most fulfilling 10 yrs of my musical career. “My tongue shall never tire of chanting in the choir. May Jesus Christ be praised.” @DioSalisbury @RSCMCentre

A choir is something social, but it’s more than that. A choir is something expressive, but it’s more than that. A choir is something musical, but it’s more than that. A choir is somewhere safe, but it’s more than that. To those in a choir, it’s so much more than it appears to be.

Singing certainly adds to the atmosphere of a sporting event. It also adds to the atmosphere of a singing event. I hope singing can once again occur at singing events, just as it can already occur at sporting events.

Please would everyone who cares about amateur singing lobby their local MP and attempt to contact @GOVUK and the @DCMS, whether by email or on social media. PLEASE rally round bodies such as the C of E, the RSCM and the ABCD, who are doing all they can - the problem is on high!

Good to have the full @SJBDevizesChoir, adults and children, signing a service together for the first time since March 2020 this evening. Thanks to the congregation that turned up on a cold night. This snap was grabbed when the choir was rehearsing the anthem & I'd a wee break.
