Good thread. Stability and reliability over speed any day. When we (aerospace) find a subsystem isn't quite up to reliabilty spec while in its expected operating environment, often the easiest fix is simply to sub in a space-rated component or two.

Installing an attic lift right now, and I have to wonder if there's any way possible the guy writing installation instructions for rough framing in an existing structure with +-1/8" tolerances has ever worked with wood.

We were already dramatically drawing down under "The Base Force" plan. He capriciously whacked another 1/3 more away under the BUR. He didnt just jigger analyses in service to his own ego, he was discovered to have flat out lied about data supporting his decision at least once.

Feh. As the world knows right now anyway. We were greater before Playboy Clinton let Les Aspin (spit) gut us under the infamous Bottom Up Review. Imagine the kind of equipment and people we hve now, in quanties we had then.

Met him at a Systems Command NCOA graduation dinner. Seemed quite reserved, humble, & I was left with the impression of him having a tired sadness. The impression stayed with me, and I always wished I would have met him again. Maybe he was just 'off' that day like we all can be.
