What is the best piece of advice, in relation to speaking, you have ever been given?🎤 #SQLFamily #NewSpeakers
@SQLBits Contrary to what you may think, most people will be rooting for you. Especially new speakers.
@SQLBits Prepare, practise, practise out loud & present like you’re telling a story. Finally, ask yourself, “if I was attending this session, would I like it?” oh! and have a backup plan if your laptop fails.
@SQLBits “Take your glasses off when you don’t need them and put them back on when you do. That action helps you engage with your audience in ways that may surprise you.”
@SQLBits You will always be nervous, its how you control it and use it that matters
@SQLBits You said "What is the best piece of advice, in relation to speaking, you have ever been given?🎤" ........REPEAT THE QUESTION OF COURSE 🤭😆
@SQLBits Answer "if in the audience what would you like to take away?" "1) Tell them what you'll tell them. 2) Tell them. 3) Tell them what you told them." (Newscast agenda)
@SQLBits Leave the pencil on the desk, not in your hand.
@SQLBits 💡Make sure your laptop is working fine with the projector on the same hall/stage early (and have plan B for that). ✨Bonuses: - Have plan A, B, and C for your demos. - Don’t drink (specially soda) or eat a meal befor the session. - Switch-off the mic when you are done.
@SQLBits Practice out loud. 1) timing very different than just doing it in your head 2) you find tongue twisters that might trip you up and either reword to avoid them, or at least be ready to take them slowly. Bonus: don’t just practice each slide/section. Practice the segues and joins.
@SQLBits If you have a tendency of stick your hands in your pockets during a presentation, make sure there is no loose change in them. When nerves take over, you WILL be playing with them, and that doesn’t look very good.
@SQLBits Plus speak slow and loud.
