Isaac Hayes - Shaft (in the studio) The man was a musical genius…
@SVG__Collection "Theme from Shaft" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, with Isaac Hayes becoming the first African American to win that honor – or any Academy Award in a non-acting category – as well as the first recipient of the award who both wrote and performed the winning song.
@SVG__Collection Oh man this brings back so many memories. 🎶
@SVG__Collection Isaac Hayes’ famous Cadillac gifted to him by Stax Records after he recorded “Shaft.” Taken at Stax, Memphis.
@SVG__Collection Definitely so. 🙏👍 Love everything he did. This one is the way Jimmy Webb would have wanted it recorded. Pure perfection youtu.be/wNLXEcSTy-A?si…
@SVG__Collection Love when the strings come in! Killer track.
@SVG__Collection @sadgirlcassi The introduction: The finest 2 minutes and 43 seconds of recorded sound.
@SVG__Collection This is great but the music being played in the clip is Disco Connection. Telltale sign is the drummer's not playing 16ths on the hihat. Real clip here youtu.be/Vmnl9acCsro?si…
@SVG__Collection This is actually the 1975 video for the Isaac Hayes Movement's 'Disco Connection'. 'Theme from Shaft' has been overdubbed. youtube.com/watch?v=xm3kbn…
@SVG__Collection Damn that made my day. Pure mastery and joy. At least millions of kids learned of Isaac Hayes via South Park. Hopefully they did not stop there. 🔥
I love those long covers he did like Walk On By and By the Time I Get to Phoenix. Absolute masterpieces. youtu.be/9bbdJSW3pvM?si…
@SVG__Collection Issac Hayes🔥🔥🔥 His version of Walk On By The Look Of Love Well .. sexiest soulful songs ever made 😳🤩🤩🤩❤️🙌🏻 Everything about him was 🔥
@SVG__Collection The backing band are the Bar-Kays. With Willie Hall working the hi-hat on other level.
@SVG__Collection I may have played that track 1000 times. I know every beat, every note, every word!
@SVG__Collection And this was just the intro. Incredible!
@SVG__Collection My wife sold my vinyl album of "Hot Buttered Soul". She got a good price and the album was in excellent shape. Still, that record really started something and I miss it somehow.
Amazing. It's so different these days, from my experiences hanging out in studios, from what I can remember. It's been a few years. But yeah, group takes are kind of just scratch background sort of things. The more 'serious' takes are done in isolation. I think it kinda started around that time of this video. Although, I know Jim Morrison did a few vocals of "Riders on the Storm" in the shower. The "whisper takes" on the track. But way back in the day with like Motown & Richie Valens & stuff, I believe they just did mic'ing on full studio performances, kind of like this. But as an artist, doing stuff in iso, although it's better for "quality," it definitely takes some getting used to, because it's so dry. Because you're not vibing with the rest of the band.
@SVG__Collection Shaft had so many layers. I would listen to it constantly and frequently find something new.
@SVG__Collection That conducting wand is really a cane for disciplining whoever messes up
@SVG__Collection Aside from the magnificent title track, Cafe Regio is one of my fave all time tracks. The way it builds and grows throughout, so many levels. Love seeing him with the baton in this vid, I think of him more as composer, he looks amazing conducting in the studio.
@SVG__Collection I can't say I relate to his music much, but we have a remarkably similar wardrobe. 😀
