@SVG__Collection The Classic Coltrane Quartet would also be in the running. Coltrane, Tyner, Garrison, & Jones
@SVG__Collection I’ve painted a few versions of that photo.
@SVG__Collection Roy Haynes passed, yesterday...😔
@SVG__Collection I got to see Roy when he brought his group to Albuquerque for a really wonderful show. I could not believe I was watching someone who was on so many classic recordings and who had played with so many legends, including Charlie Parker! This picture was taken during his visit here.
@SVG__Collection In terms of individual talent, yes. But as a quartet, the John Coltrane quartet is up there.
Thanks for sharing 1 of the most iconic & pure gold keepsake photos in music history. The fact that we lost 'Bird' almost 70 years ago is a testament to #RoyHaynes' longevity, remarkable career & transcendent Jazz contributions. When I get to Heaven, I hope to get a front row seat at a Bird, Monk, Mingus & Haynes concert.
@SVG__Collection Roy Haynes passed away yesterday November 12th at age 99
@SVG__Collection THIS PHOTOGRAPH IS EVERYTHING! HOLY F*CK! 🙀🙀🙀🙌🏽😸✊🏽
@SVG__Collection It’s a great picture, RIP Roy Haynes.
@SVG__Collection Try the Quintet, "Jazz at Massey Hall." Bird, Dizzy, Bud Powell, Mingus and Max Roach. Great album.
@SVG__Collection Hard to imagine more talent in a band.
@SVG__Collection @SportsbyBrooks These young men disagree.
@SVG__Collection That wouldn't get any argument from me.
@SVG__Collection What if any albums came of out that? I see one song youtube that matches the photo but cites different musicians. "Charlie Parker (as) Thelonious Monk (p) Tommy Potter (b) Max Roach (d) Live "Onyx Club", New York, July 11, 1948" youtube.com/watch?v=z7QoV9…
@SVG__Collection A jazz combo is something more than its parts individually considered. And in this sense, the "Classic Quartet" of John Coltrane and the Modern Jazz Quartet are on the top of the list.
@SVG__Collection WOW!!! Roy Haynes has been around! 🙏❤️ RIP
@SVG__Collection Easy to second that pronouncement!
@SVG__Collection Did they record together ? Under whose name and what is the title?
@SVG__Collection Certainly up there.
@SVG__Collection @SVG__Collection FEATURE: THE NEW YORK TIMES ASKS IS THIS THE GREATEST PHOTO IN JAZZ HISTORY? ROY HAYNES, CHARLES MINGUS, CHARLIE PARKER AND THELONIOUS MONK thekurlandagency.com/2019/03/13/the…
@SVG__Collection I thought that was MCA on the bass for a second. 😂
@SVG__Collection When was this session? Does a private recording exist? The only studio session featuring both Bird and Monk is the (in)famous 06 June 1950 quintet date with Dizzy, Curley Russell and Buddy Rich.
@SVG__Collection Anyone know if there is a record of this?
@SVG__Collection Gives John, Paul, George and Ringo a run for their money.
