On this day in 1989, Public Enemy released “Fight the Power” It was conceived at the request of film director Spike Lee, who sought a musical theme for his 1989 film Do the Right Thing. First issued on the film's 1989 soundtrack, a different version was featured on Public Enemy's 1990 studio album Fear of a Black Planet.
@SVG__Collection The greatest group in Hip Hop. 😊
@SVG__Collection Any songs like this these days? Nope. That's why people just roll over and take it.
“Fight the Power” Elvis was a hero to most Elvis was a hero to most Elvis was a hero to most But he never meant s- to me you see Straight up racist that sucker was Simple and plain Mother f- him and John Wayne 'Cause I'm Black and I'm proud I'm ready and hyped plus I'm amped Most of my heroes don't appear on no stamps Sample a look back you look and find Nothing but rednecks for 400 years if you check
@SVG__Collection Chuck D is so underrated as a writer and lyricist. His beat poetry style just flowed on every record. This song still hits hard 30+ years later.
@SVG__Collection Timeless. Still hits.

@SVG__Collection Iconic tune. Iconic video. Soundtrack to my youth.
@SVG__Collection Public Enemy said what policy wouldn’t. That Black rage was righteous, and the state was the enemy. Still true.
@SVG__Collection One of hip hop’s most important tracks. Public Enemy at peak levels here.
@SVG__Collection Most of my hero’s don’t appear on no stamps. That shit hits hard
@SVG__Collection Great song but it indoctrinated millions of people to hate on Elvis for no other reason than he's White. Chuck D himself said the song was commissioned, meaning paid to create it, for the movie so it was tailored to suit the needs of a Spike Lee movie.
@SVG__Collection So appropriate for today's Dictatorship in America.
@SVG__Collection Straight fire. Contrast this with the soulless mumble core put out today.
@SVG__Collection I had the soundtrack on cassette.
@SVG__Collection Maximum respect to the legendary heroes @MrChuckD and @flavorf
@SVG__Collection The moment this song starts to play in any documentary is when it reaches its narrative arc.
@SVG__Collection The British music press not covering PE live return in the UK ( RAH London 2025 ) after na near 10 year absence shows that The Powers that be have won. The silence is louder than a bomb
@SVG__Collection Stay woke! 🌍✊🏿👊🏼✊🏾👊🏽
@SVG__Collection I wrote the words down as a kid so I could learn them , not sure I got them all right, but at 46 I can still remember it 🎤 😂😂 Reminds me of Do The Right thing
@SVG__Collection Lyrically powerful, killer 💣 squad beat
@SVG__Collection The single greatest song in the history of recorded music.
@SVG__Collection Don’t like what the lyrics say about Elvis and I don’t listen much to rap music, but Public Enemy made some really great albums in the beginning!
@SVG__Collection That is some serious boogey down hip hop at it's best.
@SVG__Collection Great song, great movie, cruelly ignored at the oscars
@SVG__Collection Now Chuck D works for the state department...smh
@SVG__Collection I miss this type of Hip Hop music that said and meant something. Shout out to P.E. and KRS-One!
@SVG__Collection @VivaEl7_ARTE Ese temazo, Albertito!! 😀
