This rare footage of Django Reinhardt and the Quintette du Hot Club de France from Jazz Hot (1938) is a must-watch…
@SVG__Collection I grew up on this. My father was a jazz nut. That's also the great Stephan Grappeli on violin. Look up Eddie Lang & Joe Venutti too. They were very similar & also great but Django was the man
@SVG__Collection Stephane Grappelli? Damn Django could just rip. You would never know that he only had two functioning fingers on his left hand.
@SVG__Collection The violinist was Stephane Grappelli. Who saw him play with David Grisman in the 80s?
@SVG__Collection Why do I imagine that Hercule Poirot is having dinner and enjoying the music in that place?
@SVG__Collection J'attendrai Le jour et la nuit J'attendrai toujours Ton retour J'attendrai (j'attendrai) Car l'oiseau qui s'enfuit Vient chercher l'oubli Dans son nid Le temps passe et court En battant tristement Dans mon cœur si lourd Et pourtant J'attendrai ton retour ...
@SVG__Collection All the more remarkable, because his left hand was badly burned in a fire. He only used his 3rd and 4th fingers for chords; otherwise, just 2 fingers.
@SVG__Collection @AliceFrance10 Django was a genius, the greatest jazz guitarist. I never tire listening to him.
@SVG__Collection Insane overcoming of a huge handicap to become part of the guitar gallery of greats and pioneers.
@SVG__Collection The master of gypsy jazz. The new master lives on a permanent gypsy camp in my village. People come from all over the world for guitar lessons by Fapy Lafertin.
@SVG__Collection He was incomparable
@SVG__Collection Grappelli was every bit Joe Venuti's rival, but Reinhardt just outshined Eddie Lang (which was no small feat!).
@SVG__Collection Guitar legend and recording technology inventor Les Paul owned Django’s guitar as a prized possession and his reverance of his mastery of the instrument.
@SVG__Collection And the great Stéphane Grappelli.
@SVG__Collection Reinhardt and Grappelli trading rifts, can't beat it.
@SVG__Collection How about this? youtu.be/HGZTuT-TXFg?si…
@SVG__Collection After Tony Iommi lost his fingertips he quit guitar until his boss played him Django Reinhardt and told Tony he's playing with only two fingers Tony picked the guitar back up, down tuned it to make it easier to play and the result was Black Sabbath
Fantastic guitarist! There was this kid named Jimmy Rosenberg in the 80s who played Django better than most guitarists already at the age of 12. I have seen him live a few times playing with Hot Club de Norvege and his own band - Rosenberg family. This kid was phenomenal but suddenly he was gone.. Does anyone know what happened to him and where he lives now? @NealSchonMusic
@SVG__Collection ... et le violon de Stephane Grappelli fait avec la guitare de Django, deux elements d'un style rare et superbe de ce quintet célèbre --
@SVG__Collection Reinhardt ( the pioneer of Gypsy Jazz ) was deeply influenced by the Jazz music invented by the descendants of *ENSLAVED AFRICANS* ✊🏾 During the 1930s he had a “Eureka” moment upon hearing the “Swing” elements by artists like Duke Ellington and created this new genre. Facts!✊🏾
@SVG__Collection Why do I imagine that Hercule Poirot is having dinner and enjoying the music in that place?
@SVG__Collection I LOVED his playing; on my 12th bday, my dad gave me a black t-shirt w/ Django's artistic. His gypsy story & tragic maiming of fret hand. Listen to what he does with his disability!?! Pure gold. (BTW, he was the first to play jazz on acoustic guitar, oui?)
@SVG__Collection I was fortunate to get to attend a performance by Stéphane Grappeli back in the 80s.
@SVG__Collection Django in his prime—absolute fire. Feels like jazz just leapt off the screen and swung through my living room. Thanks for unearthing this classic!
@SVG__Collection With the equally great Stephane Grappelli on violin.
@SVG__Collection Ratatouille 😆 🤣 😂 can't get it outta my head but Rango was the man 2 fingers wow
@SVG__Collection Can see his influence on Willie’s playing style
@SVG__Collection @cmrondon Stephane Grappelli Violín!! El mejor!!!
@SVG__Collection @TommyKarate70 The inspiration for Willie’s style
@SVG__Collection magnifique dommage qu'il y ait si peu de vidéo de ce génie.
