65 years ago today, Miles Davis released “Sketches of Spain” Sketches of Spain is regarded as an exemplary recording of third stream, a musical fusion of jazz, European classical, and styles from world music.
@SVG__Collection I'm gonna take the unpopular position here. I LOVE @milesdavis, but this album is tedious. Boring. Not anywhere close to his best. I have never understood why it's so popular.
@SVG__Collection When I introduce newbies to jazz, Sketches of Spain and Kind of Blue are the first Miles Davis albums I send them. Works every time.
@SVG__Collection One of my all time favourite albums. And that’s a huge call for me 😊
@SVG__Collection Yes, he loved his wife’s music because she was a dancer and he wanted to incorporate that Spanish music into jazz. I think that’s pretty awesome and he did a great job. That is a wonderful album.
@SVG__Collection “Sketches of Spain” 🎵 Miles Davis 🎺 Innovant, magnifique. Je poste ici une autre merveille : ⬇️ Roslyn🥀 Ballads / John Coltrane Quartet youtu.be/bci4dGbmBFk?si…
@SVG__Collection Honestly, my favorite Miles album 🔥
@SVG__Collection We are brothers from different mothers.
@SVG__Collection I listen to this frequently, it is so evocative
@SVG__Collection Very different and very good. In my collection.
@SVG__Collection Masterpiece twice over. Solea forever
@SVG__Collection 65 years later, still pure magic.
@SVG__Collection In about 2001 I spent the summer in Vallauris and played this album on repeat while playing cards late into the night in our villa by the pool. The locals loved it. Jazz, particularly Miles, was as revered as the famous artists who created pottery in that wonderful town.
Com certeza comporia uma linda música: "Children be throw into Darkness"
@SVG__Collection Timeless music. Intro reminds me of kelvin momo's "lately" ❤️
@SVG__Collection Still love this music. I'm sure he was really proud of it too.
@SVG__Collection I’m not sure Gunther would agree with you.
@SVG__Collection @adam_tooze Note that Maids of Cadiz, attributed to Delibes, is a folk melody likely passed down across many generations and several regions, possibly having come to Spain from Northern Africa or the Middle East with the Moors. So much history and ‘information’ transmitted via sound.
@SVG__Collection ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
