Who’s the best guitarist you’ve ever seen live?
@SVG__Collection Not a guitarist, but a bassist… Victor Wooten.
@SVG__Collection When I saw Jeff Beck and SRV together, that was pretty good. But I may put BB King on top
@SVG__Collection Andres Segovia, Paco de Lucia, John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola, Jerry Garcia, Joe Pass, Mark Knopfler, Keith Richards, Pete Townshend, Carlos Santana, Duane Allman, Frank Zappa, BB King, Eric Clapton, Steve Cropper.
I've seen Eric Clapton, Jerry Garcia, Roy Buchanan, John Mclaughlin, Albert Lee, Steve Cropper, Mick Taylor, Pete Townshend, Billy Gibbons, and Jeff Beck live. I think Jeff Beck was the best. This may shock some people, but I think Keith Richards was the second best. He just didn't play long solos, but his charging chords were unmatched.
@SVG__Collection Stevie Ray Vaughan
@SVG__Collection A toss-up between Pat Metheny and Joe Pass. Different schools but both bonafide monsters.
@SVG__Collection Stevie Ray Vaughn at a small movie theater in Cleveland before anyone knew him. About 100 people from local bands were the entire audience.
@SVG__Collection Different strokes for different folks, but nobody ever played the guitar like Jerry Garcia Hendrix said Phil Keaggy
@SVG__Collection Ok, this is unexpected, but… Hank Williams Jr. 😳 I know! I was just as surprised as you!
@SVG__Collection Non- classical music: Al di Meola Classical music: Andrés Segovia
@SVG__Collection Oh man, lots of them. Leo Kottke is on the list.
@SVG__Collection Hard to choose between excellence: Pat Metheny Edward Van Halen Mark Knopfler
@SVG__Collection All-time favorite: Jeff Beck. Got to see him a couple of times at the Fillmore East. Other favorites I've seen live: Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Albert King, Eric Clapton with Cream, Jimmy Page with Led Zeppelin, BB King, Garcia, Weir, Townshend, and Hendrix.
@SVG__Collection Most accomplished was Chet Atkins, though not the most entertaining. Most exciting was Billy Gibbons before ZZ Top made it big. BG playing his Pearly Gates Les Paul through a stack of Rio Grande amps is the best live guitar tone I've ever heard. And, he was just smoking.
