Sadly in common with other archives/museums who think dodgy curating and white space are more important than objective research - just look how IWM has dumbed down its collections webpages

The changes in IWM policy on research makes me wonder whether there is not an argument for a funded research institute into 'war' that could take over the archives and make them accessible. Museums such as IWM and NAM could then get on with being 'theme parks.'

Printed & document collections @I_W_M can no longer be consulted on the day - collections moving offsite w/5 working day delivery time. Access to collections reduced, research more difficult & no access for casual museum visitor. Submit your feedback via: customerportal.iwm.org.uk/contact-iwm/

@arcreuk @Save_IWMLibrary @I_W_M This is all about saving money? I remember the days when you could turn up on the day and order documents. The library was staffed to stay open over lunchtime. Service progressively worsened and that’s a management decison.

Not exactly impoverished so such decisions are policy based, not because of financial hardship. One look at their programme for 2018 shows how badly out of step they have become.

@jonathanboff @AirPowerHistory @dmorganowen @Airminded @I_W_M But the evidence is there that the DG wished to dispose of the library completely, a decision reversed in the face of protests. I would say that this identifies the library as remaining vulnerable. One would hope that the move helps ‘save’ it, at least in the short term

Still astonished @I_W_M are moving #archives out of London, to Duxford, & restricting ordering to five days in advance... all to bring them back in per order. Massive of POL, much poorer service, no access to documents at Dux and damaging to the environment. #bloodyshameful
