Wow, only a few years and this REALLY needs an update. The Cloud has exploded since then, and the Perimeter/Network has expanded and extended in many ways. Endpoints are more loosely controlled than ever, but Data and Identity remain key pillars and talking points.

I had the idea to do it already, but once I got to college our standard AV was awful. So id spend time finding/removing viruses from my friends laptops manually. The ones that block all .exe files were my favorites to learn.

Certs can hurt you too. Try going for a management job while listing all technical certifications. They'll look at them and think your skill set doesn't fit the job.

Great info. I personally think they are useful for HR to allow you to compete. I also think someone with a million certs doesn't necessarily look more impressive than someone with the one specific to the job in question.
