Parents, make sure you research who will be coaching your kids before you commit to a select program. Letting a 16 y.o. throw 193 pitches in 12 hours just to get to a championship is cowardly and negligent. It doesn't make you Top Ten. It makes you desperate.

Players: You may be the best player on your team, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to keep getting better. Your work ethic and consistency can take you from bad to good & from good to great. Keep working, planning & doing while others are complaining, relaxing & hanging out.

All things equal, if you took 5 players, the one who: - Tucks his jersey in - Picks up his teammates - Cleans up the dugout - Says “Thank You” - Hustles on & off the field - Looks coach in the eye - Listens - Doesn’t follow the crowd... Has the best shot.

Players: Be consistent with your individual skill work. One day a week isn’t going to cut it. Whether it’s with a trainer or on your own, that’s not enough work no matter how hard you work. Be dedicated to the work ethic. Don’t make excuses. Do the work. The results are worth it.

Players: People are constantly working to take what’s yours. Being the best player/team last year doesn’t matter now. Continued development is continued improvement UNTIL. It never stops. Being satisfied is just an excuse for not working to improve & there is no excusing that.

Players: Stop making weak excuses! Working Hard: Your Choice Skipping Workouts: Your Choice Eating Bad: Your Choice Good Grades: Your Choice Arriving on Time: Your Choice Getting Better: Your Choice Making the right choice is up to you. Don’t use your bad choices as an excuse.

Common athletes set season goals (points scored/batting avg/catches made/etc) and give little/no attention to setting a system to get there Uncommon athletes set goals/then focus on building a system to get there (time in gym/at field/in classroom/attitude/being coached/etc)

Coaches: Don’t doubt the influence you have on your athletes. They watch your energy, your attitude & most importantly, how you deal with adversity. They see how you live, how you develop relationships & who you develop them with. How are you impacting people with your influence?

Common athletes believe they should be given credit for simply showing up (at class/practice/the gym/etc) Uncommon athletes know that showing up is simply the baseline and what really matters is “how” you show up (your energy/attitude/mindset) (MS) E+R=O #BeUncommon

Observation... Players that ARE good work really hard. They know success is fragile and are humble yet confident. Players that THINK they are good don’t work hard. They don’t appreciate success and blame others for their failure.

Players: Success isn’t easy. Nobody is ever going to give it to you. Would you rather be completely exhausted from consistently working hard toward your dreams or well rested from doing absolutely nothing? You have to work at it every day & that’s a choice only you can/will make.
