It’s 11.22 and the Guest of honour at the Zambia College of Medicine and Surgery graduation ceremony slated for 8 am is still not here. How can we advance as a country with such a cavalier attitude to time keeping? We need to do better.

In my view, the Judgment of the Constitutional Court delivered today deals a mortal blow to Bill 7. I doubt very much whether an unconstitutional Bill may be deferred. The right thing to do now, is to withdraw the Bill altogether. There is no other way.

This is the right thing to do. Broad consultation, prior to presentation of any amendment proposals, is absolutely necessary otherwise the process will lack legitimacy.

Resolution of the ECL burial impasse is paramount. Fractures in the country causing division must be mended. Mature leadership is key to achieving this. The hatchet must be buried if we are to move on. May God give wisdom and the spirit of compromise to both sides. This must end.

H.E ECL’s story has been told. I understand the anguish by his family and the PF, but he was President for all Zambians. Maturity is needed from both sides so that the temperature is reduced. Middle ground must be sought and found to break this unfortunate impasse. RIP, ECL

LAZ, @LauraMiti and others who have spoken out against the Cybersecurity bill have my support. To me, it is clear that the government has not consulted widely on a Bill that is mischievous. The voices of concerned citizens must be heard and this Bill must be retracted.

Whether the hint of a plan to extend the presidential term to 7 years is true or fictitious, extension of the presidential term of office, in my view, should be a no go area. On the contrary, I encourage reduction of presidential powers and enhanced separation of powers.

The statement from the former Chairperson of the ACC Board has left me wondering what went on at ACC. Why was the Board dissolved? Transparency in these matters is key. Sadly, what is clear is that there is a dark cloud hanging over the fight against corruption.

In the run up to the 2021 elections, many of us spoke out on the need for government to allow the voices of opposition, including UPND, to be heard by the electorate. How have we gotten to a place where the oppressed have become the oppressors? I never imagined this would happen.

I am concerned at the mysterious disappearance of Hon. J. Banda. The police must speed up investigations. However, I do not support the tribal remarks and innuendos gaining prominence. I encourage restraint as we wait for some tangible and credible information. Praying for him.

The judiciary is a vital arm of government. It should be allowed to function without fear or favour and without undue orchestrated pressure. The chaos that ensued on court grounds yesterday was unfortunate.

The Zambia Police is again making headlines for acts inimical to its statutory and moral obligations to the citizenry. The recent HRC findings depict a worrying and unacceptable state of affairs. When will ZP learn that they exist to serve the people and not to terrorize them?

I don’t understand how the youth can be chastised for contracting cholera as if they voluntarily exposed themselves to the bacteria! The focus of government should be on short and long term measures to mitigate the outbreak.
