The use of fuel oil in the Northeast still baffles me. Growing up on the West Coast, it never occurred to me that oil was still used for heat. And not in, like, the woods of Maine. We’re talking Westchester County.

Although maybe I shouldn’t be surprised, given the widespread use of septic systems and well water. Again, this is not far from the largest city in the country. The utilities (or lack thereof) in NY suburbs seem very strange to me. Especially given the taxes.
@ShortSightedCap V cold af winters plus most abundant gas basin minus nat gas pipes in extremely tiny municipalities = lol. Lmao. Hahahahahaha This is simply basic math
@ShortSightedCap Nimbyism is quite a thing.
@ShortSightedCap Costs a lot / requires a lot of cooperation to run pipes for nat gas. And don’t forget the forests impacted! These projects never had a chance unfortunately.
@ShortSightedCap Forget Westchester…I’m on the board of my Manhattan condo building and fuel oil is the #3 overall expense in the budget (next to labor and insurance).
@ShortSightedCap Seattle has lots of oil heated houses.
@ShortSightedCap All of my family uses oil for heat. Central mass resident. Bills being put into place here to stop new nat gas hookups.
