The design dates to Roman times, where it was used in timber-framed roof construction, as well as medieval churches and barns. The world’s earliest surviving iron railway bridge, the Pont-y-Cafnau in Wales, features a king post design.

We pay our respects to all the brave men and women wounded or killed in combat. Purple Heart Day is observed on 8.7 of each year, commemorating the day that Gen. George Washington commissioned the first Purple Heart Medal.
