This is a tale of two very different gravestones, both at Kilmuir on Skye. Most visitors to this graveyard are distracted by the monumental cross dedicated to Flora MacDonald but these two deserve closer inspection.
The first grave of the mail clad warrior is the final resting spot of Angus Martin. He was a typically wild character who delighted in sailing his ship around the islands in all weathers and every season, gaining the nickname 'Angus of the Wind''.
@StoryScotland Love learning about stuff like this. Thank you!
@StoryScotland Graeme, did you see the one dedicated to the piper, not finished, also at Kilmuir?
@StoryScotland What’s the best time of the year (and way) to visit Skye?
@StoryScotland is there research on flat vs standing gravestones?
@StoryScotland Could this tomb be that of a Templar?
@StoryScotland This needs a good clean up before it is swallowed
@StoryScotland Very interesting. Many thanks for sharing Graeme.
@StoryScotland Been there several times. Beautiful place
@StoryScotland similar to an Irish kern? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kern_(sol…
@StoryScotland @peterandann Been to Kilmuir often but not observed these. However on the shore we were close to these many times.
@StoryScotland @pearceyp78 I’d be interested to learn the dates of these men.
@StoryScotland Famous Flora Mac Donald from Skye, my great grandmother 6 generations ago.
