Working on identifying novel conjugation plasmids in Firmicutes. All small circles are plasmids that can't be classified as conjugation by current definitions. Who doesn't like a pretty graph?

why do we use the same Secretion System classification for Gram positive bacteria as for Gram negative? It makes no sense to me when they are as fundamentally different as they are, and the more I try to understand it, the less this way of classifying them makes sense.

I started a statistics course on the side, and I feel for the teacher when, on the first lecture, the students ONLY questions are: "will this be on the exam?" and "can I take notes in my book for the open books exam?" It's also on zoom, and half of the class isn't on cam.
