Well folks it is Jersey’s 14th Birthday. I simply cannot believe it has been 14 years since I drove into St. John’s to pick her up as a puppy. We intended her to be my dog but she fell right in love with Marlene and has been following her around ever since. Understandable.

Our only non beagle dog was little Luci. As I have mentioned many times, I found her abandoned in the bush while on a fishing trip up north. She was only a tiny hungry little puppy and I could not leave her there alone so I put her in my pocket and brought her home with me.

Like children, I don’t think it is good to have a favourite but Luci was definitely mine out of all our dogs over the years. Day or night she never left my side for a minute. They know who they want to be friends with, and you will never change their little minds. She was a joy!

The plan as that Jersey was suppose to be my dog for going around hiking with me while I was out taking pictures, but even as a little puppy she immediately fell right in love with Marlene and has not left her side since. She never wanted to go with me unless Marlene went also.

Marlene’s all time favourite dog was old Scooter who many of you will remember. He was just a big loveable beagle who enjoyed curling up in bed with Marlene. In those days on many nights one of us slept in the spare room and the other had all the dogs in bed with them.

Old Scooter always acted like a human. There was hardly a day we were not laughing at his antics. And there were worries also. Once he took off after a rabbit at the lighthouse and we lost him. Two days later I found him walking down the highway about ten miles outside of town.

A bald eagle sitting on the shoreline waiting to see if it can find breakfast. Jersey and I see many Park animals while we are out because we know where they normally are, what time of the day we are likely to see them, and because we move very slowly and quietly while looking.
