Collaborating, connecting, learning and thoroughly enjoying my first session of the Global Classroom Project Cohort today!
Beaming with pride! Natasha was awarded the 2023 ITA Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award last night at a special ceremony in New York.
Yesterday was our last official day at Colegio de Jose Joaquin Castro Martinez. We were so touched by the warmth of the faculty and especially our host teacher, Silvia. We got to also see the school celebrating Colombian Independence Day.
Our host teacher had us teach some students at her school today. I did an activity with some middle school students called, “My multicultural self”. They were so engaged. We also got to watch some amazing presentations by high school students.
We had an interesting day! Got to answer some tough questions posed by 8th graders at our host school. Then, we observed an inclusive class and the Special Education teacher gave us some lessons in learning Braille. We visited two more museums.
Today afternoon we visited the Museo Nacional de Colombia that houses collections on its history, art and culture. It used to be a prison.
What a day! I feel like every day is packed with so much to learn and understand about the Colombian culture and their schools. The day began at our host teacher’s school. Teachers had a PD day and we got to present before them.
Today we visited our host teacher’s school - Jose Joaquin Castro Martinez IED ( public school). Students in higher grades help resolve conflicts amongst other students. We got to observe some of those sessions and saw a couple of classes where English was being taught.
My host teacher was happy to receive some of the gifts from our school, Luther Jackson Middle School- School tee shirts, pin cushions made by students, school yearbook etc
Our host teacher, took us to her farmhouse in Guasca. Unbelievable scenic views!
Yesterday we visited the sanctuary of Monserrate in Bogota. Incredible experience! It is located 3,172 meters above sea level.
Got to visit two public schools in Bogota today. The students, teachers and admin were so welcoming!
What a wonderful welcome at Bogota, Colombia! So happy to be part of this experience, thankful to IREX and all my Fulbright colleagues 🙏
