Stranraer...a station in a place that time has left behind. Its been over 13 years since the last ferry departed this Harbour in Nov 2011, yet nothing has changed apart from ongoing decay. Trains continue to ply the route for the remaining customers that still use it.
@Tall_Controller There were more signallers than passengers when I used it a couple of years ago.
@Tall_Controller If you’ve seen Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights
@Tall_Controller The British Regional Transport Association (BRTA) wants a new-build #Dumfries-#Stranraer rail link brtarail.com/our-campaigns/ Taking on the A75 and filling a strategic link, a new branch to #Kirkcudbright would serve a new deep sea port shared with the Royal Navy. We need support!
@Tall_Controller Loved getting the sleeper from Euston then boarding #PrincessofAntrim ‘81-‘85 en route to @UlsterUni #Coleraine and turning left into the 1st class lounge thanks to my Dad’s #priv as a British Rail Manager!
@Tall_Controller I remember the Boat Train to and from London Euston. My grandparents used to use it to connect to the Sealink as it was then connection to Larne. Nowadays it's a bus from Ayr to Cainryan. It's more hassle now.
@Tall_Controller Almost feels like New Holland Pier that served the Humber Ferry. Still there as a jetty for industrial. Oddly enough, in the Trainz simulator it is still there with one track. 🚂
@Tall_Controller Not a bad little station (been to a lot worse), get the little bus to Maryport and you've had a day out cheaply.
@Tall_Controller fab town there in @DGWGO @dgcouncil Stranraer & there is regular transport to @StenaLineUKIE
@Tall_Controller Is it feasible to resite the station? Does old track bed exist?
@Tall_Controller I’ve long suggested (and I suspect others will have) to resite the station to Station St. Looks to be old sidings and all wasteland now. Suspect the few passenger numbers that the line gets would not justify the costs.
@Tall_Controller I hate to say this but the line should be closed beyond Girvan Even the scotrail railsail service uses a coach from Girvan. The line doesn't serve the intermediate settlements such as Ballantrae. It was closed for 10 months because of the Ayr hotel issue. Should have stayed shut
@Tall_Controller Another example of an organisation relocating activity and leaving a wasteland behind… and then having the cheek to complain about the lack of Scottish Government investment in links to their new location!
@Tall_Controller Last time I used it on a boat train it required a class 20 banker just outside Ayr.
