The federal govt has been in court, fighting for the right to ignore climate impacts when considering whether or not to approve new coal mines. The verdict comes out at 2:15pm AEDT today. Coal Mine Tracker shows the scale of what the Environment Minister is fighting for.
If approved, these two coal mines would result in over *1.3 billion tonnes* of lifetime emissions. We simply cannot afford to keep opening new coal mines. Add your name to the call to stop approving new coal mines > theaus.in/stopcoalmines
@TheAusInstitute Labor talked a big game on the environment but has delivered little. They are like Nero while Rome burns, except this time it’s the planet on fire. Hopefully the next election delivers a parliament where the Greens and Teals hold the balance of power, then Labor will get serious.
@TheAusInstitute This is exactly what the hard-RW LNP wants. Why is @AustralianLabor giving fuel that empowers its main opposition, which is driving the crackpot #socialdecay generating opposition to TheVoice ?!
@TheAusInstitute Do we need to look harder at who is being put on the Federal Court or is this a flaw in our legislation to date?
@TheAusInstitute Hey @TheAusInstitute where can I find the verdict?
@TheAusInstitute Shaun McElwaine is the person the world can thank for not having the moral courage to put the possibility of benign future habitability of the planet above his dedication to jurisprudence uber alles.
@TheAusInstitute This is heartbreaking. Sorry to be self-serving, but this is why I think it’s worth pursuing recognition of an Implied Right to a Healthy Environment in our Constitution (the one law above Govt that they can’t rewrite).
