The dad in this situation is catching a lot of flack for giving Karen the baseball. What was he supposed to do? Escalate the situation, have her attack him or the kids, risk the court of public opinion turning against him and not being able to provide for his family anymore. Bullying should not be tolerated, but not every instance of bullying is a hill worth dying on. The prize: an insignificant trinket, from an insignificant ball game. The stakes: his reputation, his job, his criminal record, his safety. That price is not worth it. Dad made the right choice.
I think he did the right thing. The lady was acting absolutely ridiculous. No matter how hard he tried, he was never going to reason with her, you can’t reason with an unreasonable person. He taught his son to take the high road and that lesson is worth more than that baseball will ever be
