Today’s legal reminder: Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. A finding of “not guilty” means that the Crown didn’t present enough evidence to override that presumption, and until they do the accused is still presumed innocent. That’s how our system works.

Adventures in bad judicial writing: The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals opens an opinion with a joke explaining why proper grammar matters, says "this case is the perfect illustration," and then holds that proper grammar does not, in fact, matter. Judges, please don't do this.

Back to Bill 47, the Automobile Insurance Act, here's an awkward truth: of every $100k insurers pay, once defence counsel / disbursements / experts (15%), & plaintiff counsel / disbursements / experts (35%) are paid, the claimant gets about $56,525. That's where the system fails.
