It's really hard to keep track of subscriptions. That is why every time I subscribe to something I cancel the auto-renew. That way the pain of something's absence drives the future spend, not the inevitable forgetfulness
If today we discovered something as healthy for me as smoking is bad for me what would the process be for my doctor prescribing this to me? What is the interaction between insurance covering it, my doctor learning about it, then determining it is good for me?
The government should be providing a service like examine.com and have people be able to vote on things they want the gov't to invest in to research more.
How much do you protect someone from the truth? You can cause unnecessary suffering by telling someone something that is needlessly difficult to deal with. On the other side, you are making decisions on what is good for them on their behalf. Near impossible to do well. Also lying
The worst thing about alcohol isn't the health impacts...it's that drinking allows you to feel okay doing things you don't actually enjoy doing. It removes the pressure needed to face the discomfort of figuring out what I actually enjoy.

Does anyone know a tax preparation software that doesn't use my money to lobby for more complicated taxes? I don't want to do them by hand but I also don't want to support complicated taxes in any way (including the profession itself).
It just isn't enough to understand. You must actually do the thing.
