UNIVERSITY UPDATE: Following the cancellation of classes due to inclement weather today, September 1, the Sanggunian released an open letter, calling on the Ateneo administration to ammend its Revised Guidelines on Cancellation or Suspension of Classes in Higher Education to also cover online classes during suspensions. Under the current guidelines, government-declared class suspensions are only applicable to onsite classes, thus allowing for the possibility of online classes. However, the Sanggunian noted in the open letter that many students face challenges attending online classes during heavy rainfall due to flooding, power outages, and unstable internet connections. Additionally, the student government also hoped that employees and maintenance staff are exempted from both onsite and online work during suspensions, in consideration of "severe risks" faced by them during inclement weather. Notably, the Sanggunian sent a similar appeal to Vice President for Higher Education Maria Luz Vilches, PhD on August 25.
