GSLV MK 2: A Beacon of Innovation Since its inception in August 1969, @isro space exploration journey has been marked by significant milestones, and the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark 2 (GSLV Mk2) attests to India’s growing might in space exploration technologies.
#GSLV MK 2 was crafted by #ISRO to cater to the launch of #communication satellites in geo-transfer orbit.
Initially, #Cryogenic stages supplied by the Russian company, #Glavkosmos, were used. But, with the rise in tensions between Russia-US relations, #India resolved to develop its cryogenic technology which saw its induction in January 2014.
Finally, the upper stage is powered by a #CryogenicEngine, which utilizes LOX and LH2 as propellants. Additionally, there’s also a fourth stage. In this stage, the #satellite gets the final push it needs to reach its farthest point from Earth, called the #Apogee.
