As a strawberry farmer, I can tell you that there isn’t a relationship between farmers market fruit and internal color. It’s purely variety driven. Different varietals have different internal and external color. In many cases the public varieties you buy at farmers markets are the same ones that you are purchasing from the larger shippers in the stores.
@TheWarKitchen Isn't that the truth. My Papa owned a grocery store while I was growing up and every time I went in I could eat as much fruit as I want and NONE ever looked like the ones of today, he made sure of that himself. If he didn't like how they looked he didn't buy them
@TheWarKitchen Most everything in grocery stores is picked super early so it stays firm during shipping and on the shelf. Downside is there is no flavor and less nutrients.
@TheWarKitchen In Oregon, we eagerly await Oregon strawberries each spring 😀. They don't travel well
