Protest without violence? Students were in their encampments doing arts and crafts & singing songs and they were called terrorist.

Protest respectfully. They killed Huey Newton for feeding Black children in his community.

The best part about having a PhD in Counseling Psych is the transferable skillset…I don’t NEED to be affiliated with these corrupt institutions & universities. It’s a choice. My livelihood doesn’t depend on that. I’ll ALWAYS be employed in any capacity as long as I want to be.

The way these institutions are responding to encampments is the most effective Pro-Palestine support gathering tactic in the US to date
we have got to talk more about the difference between *feeling* safe and *being* safe. conflating the two is really fucking us up.
98% of the citations in my dissertation are Black scholars (mainly women and femmes) and 100% of my course materials for the classes I teach are Black authors/media folk/etc. I am intentional about always prioritizing Black scholarship in my work and in my classes.

After the students’ demands for divestment are met, I think all of academia and the WH (because Biden and his people have perpetuated numerous harmful falsehoods that helped get us here) need to participate in some version of a truth and reconciliation commission.
I am going to teach a class at CCNY in the fall. My parents are both graduates of the school. I am a public school legacy. And I cannot wait to get on campus and meet these students to talk about the intersection of power and media.
Every video out of UCLA is further proof that all the arrests, calls to the cops, etc. have absolutely nothing to do with safety.
BREAKING: Pro-Israel Protesters Shoot More Fireworks Into Peaceful UCLA Encampment. One student reportedly injured & carried away. The cops allow this. So far the Israeli supporters have been assaulting women, screaming the N Word, using pepper spray & fireworks. No punishment.
I canceled the final project for my course and told students to use that time to educate themselves on what was happening on their campus. This isn't a big fix but I hope it gives them some relief and one less thing to worry about amongst all of this chaos.
